Aktiviteter
Geilo offers a large selection of activities both summer, autumn and winter - spring is so
short here that we do not have an own section for this season.
In winter, of course, skiing is the most important thing and Geilo is one of the best places in
Norway for both cross-country and alpine skiing. Geilo has been awarded Norway's best ski
resort during the World Ski Awards for two years in a row. In addition, there are a number
of players who arrange winter activities such as snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, ice
fishing and much more.
In the summer, Geilo turns into a hike and bike eldorado. For cycling enthusiasts there is a
large selection of marked bike paths. You can ride downhill on various trails in the ski resort
in Vestlia, here are also pump tracks and "Skurfen". If you just want a flat and quiet bike
ride, the route at the gravel roads around Lake Ustedalsfjorden is perfect. For hikers, the
selection is just as good. The Sherpa stairs up on Hallingskarvet are the most popular, but
there are a number of beautifully marked walks from Geilo, Tuva and Prestholtseter. About
half an hour away on Dagali, you can go rafting and go-carting. If you drive an hour west -
over Hardangervdda - you will come to the fantastic Vøringsfossen waterfall which can be
explored from the new bridges and viewing platforms.
Here we present a number of videos that show some of what is possible to do. Click on the

WINTER ACTIVITIES
SUMMER/AUTUMN ACTIVITIES
Geilo in summer
Geilo is a mountain village and ski destination
located in the center of southern Norway. In this
video, we explore the area in the summer, with its
fantastic mountain roads and hiking trails, rivers
and waterfalls, lakes and not least Hallingskarvet
Mountain Ridge. We also give you a taste and an
overview of what you can do here in the summer.
Lake Ustedalsfjord Roundtrip
Ustedalsfjorden plays an important role in the
activities Geilo has to offer, both summer and
winter. To give you an impression of the beautiful
landscape and the diversity of sights, we take you
on a tour, crossing small rivers, a large waterfall,
historic Viking tombs, dense forest, a golf course
and the beach at Geilo - often called Geilo Beach.
Hike suggestion: Prestholt-Tuftelia
Geilo has many beautiful mountain trails and this is
one of the best. You can either start at Tuftelia, 4 km
west of Geilo and take a round trip or start a bit
more east of Prestholt at the foot of Hallingskarvet
and just walk down to Tuftelia. You meet both
deserted mountain landscapes, rivers and
waterfalls, steep gorges and forests on your way,
with some fantastic viewpoints over Geilo and
Ustedalen.
Geilo High Rope Course
In this video we visit Geilo High Rope Course, which
is part of Geilo Summer Park in Vestlia. There are
challenges for all, with a small trail for the little ones
and a larger one with several zip lines, nets and
other challenges for those over 140 cm.
Geilo Zipline
We have tested the zipline in Geilo, which is one of
the longest in Norway. It is located in Vestlia, as part
of Geilo Summer Park. Unlike Flåm Zipline which is
longer, this allows you to rotate both horizontally
and vertically - if you want to …
Swimming in Geilo
If you want a warmer alternative than Lake
Ustedalsfjorden in summer, you can swim in several
pools in Geilo. Here we take a closer look at the
alternatives.
Lake Ustedalsfjorden in Autumn
The hiking trail around Ustedalsfjorden in autumn
colors. This is an easy route from the center of Geilo
and is great for both walking or cycling - mostly
quite flat with some small slopes.
Hallingskarvet & Prestholtrunden
A half-hour drive up in the mountain behind the ski
resort you will find Prestholtseter. This is the starting
point for a beautiful hike to the top of Hallingskarvet.
Sherpas from Nepal have made a stone trail all the
way up to Prestholtskaret at 1600 meters, which
makes it easy for everyone to climb the mountain.
From here you can continue on Prestholdrunden,
which ends back at Prestholtseter
Swimming in Geilo
If you want a taste of summer in the winter season
or a warmer alternative than Lake Ustedalsfjorden
in summer, you can swim in several pools in Geilo.
Here we take a closer look at the alternatives.
The ski slopes in Geilo
Here we show parts of the ski resort in Geilo, filmed
on a beautiful winter day in January
Skiing in Winter Wonderland
Join a five-minute ride down some of the winter-
covered forest slopes in Geilo
Geilo High FIve
Ski Geilo has introduced a new challenge - Geilo
High Five. Visit five peaks over 1000 m within the ski
area. Get a punch card and a map and join the
challenge that includes free coffee or hot chocolate.
In this video we have tested this cool challenge.
Geilo Ski Challenge
All lifts and slopes in Geilo ski resort at the same day
- two valleys, five mountain sides. First all slopes at
«Geilosiden», then the ski bus to Vestlia and Kikut
and all slopes there. In this video we show you a
suggested route with the names of the lifts and the
number of slopes and where they are on the ski map.
If you are new to Geilo, this video is a great way to
get an overview.
Snow kiting at Hardangervidda
If you need to get away from people and need a
challenge, snow kiting in a remote place like the
Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau can be an option.
Haugastøl serves as a base for many snow kiters
who use several suitable areas up on the plateau.
Courses are also often arranged here.
